History of Skyway Sams #118
Skyway Sams is a chapter of the International Good Sam Club known as Chapter 118 which was approved
in February 1922 and chartered in March 1988.
Objectives
To establish a continuing association of men and women dedicated to the principles of Good Sam, promoting fun and
companionship through camping, while maintaining an identity as the Skyway Sams, a Chapter of the International Good
Sam Recreational Vehicle Club. All activities, rules, and by- laws will coincide with the Good Sam Club's International
constitution and by-laws.
Membership
All members of the Skyway Sams must be members in good standing with the Good Sam International Headquarters. The
number of family memberships allowed at one time may be limited by the vote of the members. To attain membership
status, prospects must attend three out of five consecutive meetings and must be sponsored by a member. Membership
will be forfeited by failure to maintain an active national membership or by nonpayment of dues, and approval of the
Executive Board. Failure to attend four or more meetings or Chapter outings in succession without notification to Chapter
officers may result in the removal of a member's name from the mailing list.

Chapter Fees
Annual dues shall be $10.00 per rig payable as of the first meeting in October each year. An assessment will be charged
to each member attending meetings to cover breakfast refreshments. The amount of this assessment will be determined
for the following twelve months by a vote of the membership at the October meeting.
Officers
The annual election of officers will be held during the month of October by secret ballot with the term of office running for
a period of one year commencing December 1. The Chapter President, Vice President, Secretary and the Treasurer will be
elected by the membership. The Wagon Master, Publicity Officer, Legislative Representative, and other committees will be
appointed by the President. If an elected officer is absent from office for a period of over three months, the membership
will elect a replacement to complete the term of office, or in the case of the appointed officer, the President will appoint a
replacement. If an officer must be absent from office for less than three months, the President shall appoint a temporary
replacement to hold office until the return of the regularly elected officer. In the absence of the President for over three
months, the Vice President shall assume the duties as President and a new Vice President shall be elected by the

Executive Board
The Executive Board shall consist of all officers and the immediate Past President. The Executive Board may meet prior to
general meetings of the Chapter or upon call of the President to review matters to be brought to the attention of the
membership and/or make decisions which may be voted on or accepted per se by the membership. All disciplinary
matters will be presented to the Executive Board prior to being presented to the membership.
Duties
PRESIDENT: The President shall preside over each meeting, maintaining order and decorum. He/she shall not have a
vote but shall cast the necessary ballot to decide tie votes. He/she shall appoint committees as necessary. The President
shall welcome all new members with the Good Sam Pledge. The President shall represent the Chapter as member of the
Florida Good Sam State Committee.
VICE PRESIDENT: The Vice President shall assist the President as necessary and in the President's absence, shall
assume his or her duties. The Vice President shall coordinate Committees.
SECRETARY: The Secretary shall maintain minutes of each meeting, maintain a current roster of members, publish
information bulletins or notices as required to insure that members are informed to forthcoming functions of the Chapter.
The Secretary shall assist the officers in their clerical duties, maintain Chapter records and conduct correspondence.
TREASURER: The Treasurer shall control Chapter finances, maintaining accurate records of all receipts and
expenditures. Expenditures of moneys from Chapter funds shall be by vote of the membership. A checking account shall
be established in the name Skyway Sams and checks may be written against the account by the Treasurer, or in the
Treasurer's absence, the President.
WAGONMASTER: The Wagonmaster shall select future campsites, make reservations as necessary, plan the routes to
said campsites and perform other duties related to the campout as is felt necessary. The Wagonmaster shall make all
arrangements far enough in advance so as to notify the Secretary, who in turn notify the membership of the date,
location, etc., of the next campout. The Wagonmaster is volunteered and appointed by the President, and the office will
be rotated among the members.
NOTE... Each month's Hosts shall be assisted by the member scheduled to be the host of the following campout.
Publicity Officer: The Publicity Officer shall obtain local publicity, and provide items of interest to the State Editor
concerning the Chapter, its campouts, and activities.
MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
All members of the Skyway Sams shall strive to attend all functions of the Chapter. All dues and assessments shall be
paid when due. Members shall attempt to enlist others into the Good Sam Club and into our Chapter. It is the
responsibility of all members to keep the Good Sam Pledge.
NOTE... Members are expected to make every campout. If they cannot attend, they should inform that month's host as
soon as possible. Quite often. the club has to guarantee the number of sites.
MEETINGS
Business meetings of the Chapter shall be held monthly or more often if desired. The meetings will take place at the
monthly campout unless designated by vote of the membership, or at the request of the President. For the purpose of
conducting Chapter business, five rigs in attendance will constitute a quorum and shall be considered a vote of the entire
membership of the Chapter. Robert's Rules of Order shall be the procedural form of business at all meetings unless
dispensed of for that particular meeting by the members' present, membership, or at the request of the President.

LOCAL RULES
Failure to attend two (2) or more meetings or Chapter outings in succession without notification to an elected Chapter
officer may result in the removal of a member's name from the Chapter's membership roster. A majority vote of the
membership shall determine the outcome. (Enacted 01/05/2008)

The Official Chapter Color is "Royal Blue". Chapter T-Shirts are to be worn to all business meetings and official functions.

Husband & Wife or Partners living together cannot hold the offices of President, Vice President, or Treasurer while the
other is holding one of the said offices. (Enacted 01/2007)
A raffle shall be held at each campout with the proceeds going to the Florida Dog Guides for the Deaf or other charity
approved by the membership. (Revised 01/05/2008)
There shall be a $.25 cent fine imposed on any member not wearing their name tag to any club function. (increased from
10 cents on 2/2/02)
When a member celebrates a birthday, or members celebrate an anniversary, he, she or they shall contribute to the club,
one penny for each year they have lived or been married. (Revised 05/05/2008)
Regular campouts will not normally be held in June, July, August, or September. (Re-affirmed 01/05/2008)
The "Boner Award", made by Honorary Member Lou Wilson, shall be presented to the member pulling the biggest
camping related boner since the previous campout. (Re-affirmed 01/05/2008)
The Chapter shall retain financial records for a period of 7 years and minutes of meetings for 5 years.
An Assistant Secretary's position shall be created and filled by election by chapter membership. The Assistant Secretary
shall perform the duties of Secretary whenever the Secretary is absent from chapter meetings/functions. (Re-affirmed

An Assistant Treasurer's position shall be created and filled by election by chapter membership. The Assistant Treasurer
shall keep abreast of the Treasurer's business so that he/she will be able to perform the duties of Treasurer if necessary.

CAMPOUTS
Campouts shall be held monthly on the first full weekend of each month (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Special
consideration may be given to Good Sam State, National, or other Samborees. Wagonmasters may request
recommendations of campsites and/or assistance from members. (See Local Rules)
